A few thoughts on re-thinking your family photos this year

I’m here to help families create beautiful photos they’ll truly cherish. Photos that capture this wild, wonderful phase of life.

I know planning family photos can feel daunting, almost like a chore. Once the date is set, everything seems to revolve around it: haircuts, new matching outfits, and a chaotic routine trying to get everyone ready on time. Families put so much pressure on themselves to get the perfect pictures, but it doesn’t have to be this way!

Often, the photos you’ll cherish most are those that capture the true moments of connection between your family. Authentic laughs, loving glances, small hands reaching for yours.

The real question is: how do you actually want to remember this phase of life? When you're investing in family photos they should, at a minimum, feel authentic and reflect your one-of-a-kind family dynamic. The love you feel in the images will far outweigh any small imperfections.

Mini Shoots

That’s why I’m setting up mini-shoots around Delft to capture authentic family photos where you can interact with your children in the family-friendly settings we all know and love. These sessions are all about letting you interact with your children, like laughing, playing, picking out books at the library and splashing through water fountains, while I focus on documenting those moments naturally.

My promise is that you will end up with some of your favourite family photos - including photos worthy of being blown up in large picture frames and put into holiday cards.

A Few Tips

  • I always follow the lead of your children. They might head in a different direction than we had planned, or melt down, or decide they want to wear their bright shirt that day. I always encourage families to let it happen. I can pivot quickly during shoots and when it comes to the final images, the feeling and connection you share will far outweigh any expectations you had before taking the photos.
  • Except for one or two posed family photos, I will never ask children to pose and look at the camera. The best shots happen when they are concentrating on something or interacting  with you!
  • Before the shoot, think of any goofy family inside jokes or little games you like to play together. Don’t be afraid to bring these out on the day of the photos.
  • Wear what feels comfortable to you. Avoid bold prints and text on shirts.
  • Leave smart watches and phones stored away (not in your pockets).

I look forward to going on an adventure together!
